Why not? Second Chance Fabrics resells preowned fabric - fabrics that most likely have been sitting on a shelf in the back of a closet for a period of time. You know which fabric we're talking about. The fabric that you drift across at least once a year and say, "Oh, I just love this fabric, but I don't have any project to use it for." Our fabric comes from various sources: retiring quilters who have no need for their fabric any longer, current quilters who are thinning their stash to make room for new acquisitions, and even quilters who have passed on and whose family has decided to give their fabric a second chance.
2. Do you ever sell new fabric?
Yes. Well, technically, all our fabric could be considered new because it's not recaptured from a created quilt or from clothing, but occasionally Second Chance Fabrics will order a shipment of brand new fabric from various manufacturers to sell on our webpage. Pre-owned fabric is our main focus, but we do recognize the potential need for larger pieces of fabric. For this reason, Second Chance Fabrics will offer a small selection of new fabrics.
3. I have allergies, does your fabric come from a pet-free, smoke-free environment?
Second Chance Fabrics cannot guarantee the source of the fabric as pet-free and smoke-free. Our inventory comes from various personal households - chances are that some of them own pets and some of them smoke. We do remove excessive pet hair with a lint roller, but a few pieces may escape us. We do not wash the fabric as it is inventoried - some quilters preferred unwashed fabric. If a piece came in that was outrageously smoky, stinky, or stained we would definitely run it through the washer to see if it was salvageable, but for the most part we sell fabric as is. The best advice we can offer is if you allergies, be prepared to launder your fabrics when they are received.
4. Where are you located? Do you have a store I can visit?
Second Chance Fabrics is based in Fresno, CA, currently out of an extra bedroom. At the moment we are completely internet based. We do plan to participate as a vender in various quilt shows around California just as soon as we can get our act together. A physical store location is a dream we hope will come true at some point in the future. For now we are a small company, but we are ready to grow as quickly as necessary to meet any demands.
5. I am in charge of cleaning my grandmothers house after she passed away and she has a huge collection of fabric and quilting supplies. Do you ever pay cash instead of offer store credit. I am not a quilter.
Yes. We are pleased and honored that you would trust us to treat your family member's quilting stash with respect and make sure it goes into good hands. For large collections left behind by life-long quilters, please contact us by email (contact@secondchancefabrics.com) or phone, (559) 417-4145. Please give us an idea of the total yardage or volume of fabric, or better yet, send some pictures, and we will contact you with a customized cash offer. We are sad when the world loses a quilter, but we think of how happy that quilter would be, knowing that their quilting stash is sparking creativity and being loved by so many others.
